SF-AR-0001 below is a demonstration identifier. It is not an empirical Artifact Report or evidence that a product has been examined.
A report must make an observation testable
Use a stable ID in the form SF-AR-0001, SF-AR-0002, and so on. A real publication should identify the test proposition, environment, steps, controls, repetitions, acquired objects, and interpretive limits. Keep source observations separate from conclusions. Include a report version and a material revision history.
The release provides a JSON template, a Markdown template, and an interoperability schema. These are CC BY 4.0 documentation/specification artifacts. Use the release SHA-256 list to verify the downloaded bytes.
Report fields
| Field | Required documentation |
|---|---|
| Artifact Report ID | A stable identifier such as SF-AR-0001. Mark demonstration records explicitly. |
| Title | Name the artifact and the tested proposition. |
| Application | Product or application actually examined. |
| Application Version | Exact version, build, or the limits of available version evidence. |
| Platform | Desktop, browser, mobile, service, or other tested environment. |
| Operating System | Name, version, build, and relevant environment settings. |
| Artifact Type | Database, JSON, log, browser storage, media, or another verified type. |
| Artifact Location | Verified location for the stated environment; never extrapolate an untested path. |
| File Type | Format determined from examination, not only a filename extension. |
| Database / Schema | Schema version, tables, relations, and acquisition requirements when applicable. |
| Relevant Fields | Field names, raw values, types, meanings, and unresolved interpretations. |
| Timestamp Format | Units, epoch, timezone, event meaning, clock source, resolution, and raw representation. |
| Creation Behavior | The action and conditions under which the record was observed to appear. |
| Persistence | Observed survival across specified actions, with duration and test limits. |
| Deletion Behavior | What operation was tested, at which layer, and which records remained or disappeared. |
| Synchronization Behavior | Devices, account state, network conditions, conflicts, and propagation observed. |
| Forensic Significance | Which proposition the artifact may support, and which it cannot establish alone. |
| Validation Status | Preliminary, Observed, Replicated, Validated, Superseded, or Inconclusive. |
| Last Verified | Date of an actual verification experiment; leave unknown when none occurred. |
| Sources | Primary records, documentation, experiment notes, and source-class labels. |
| Hashes | SHA-256 digests for the referenced acquired objects, with filenames and byte lengths. |
| Dataset / Repository Reference | Real accessible record or repository, with version and licensing where applicable. |
Validation states
A report’s validation state describes the maturity of its documented observation. It is separate from the confidence vocabulary used for individual claims. Do not treat “Validated” as proof that behavior holds for every platform or version.
| State | Meaning within this specification |
|---|---|
| Preliminary | An initial proposition or draft awaiting a documented observation. |
| Observed | Behavior directly recorded under stated test conditions. |
| Replicated | The observation was reproduced in additional documented tests. |
| Validated | A defined validation procedure supports the interpretation within a stated scope. |
| Superseded | A newer report replaces the material scope or interpretation; preserve the old record. |
| Inconclusive | The available results do not resolve the tested proposition. |
Publication and revision
Record actual experimental verification dates only. Unknown values should remain explicit, and inapplicable fields should include a reason. Link to real datasets or repositories; do not create a fictional supporting package. Hash acquired test objects and identify which representation was hashed.
When a later version changes the finding, preserve the earlier report and mark it Superseded where appropriate. Never silently replace a materially important forensic conclusion. The correction log and versioning policy describe the project’s recordkeeping. Dataset licenses are selected per dataset and are not inherited from this specification.
Synthetic Forensics Artifact Report
This record illustrates the format. Unknown values are deliberately unset. Replace them only with documented observations from an actual examination; do not cite this example as a finding.
